Dr. John H. Mahon, Northern Indiana Hand & Wrist Center, Completes Meaningful Use Stage 1 Attestation

South Bend, August 20, 2012: Northern Indiana Hand & Wrist Center is pleased to announce that Dr. John H. Mahon has successfully attested to all requirements of Stage 1 Meaningful Use. Dr. Mahon, a certified sub-specialist in surgery of the hand who has practiced in South Bend for over twenty years states, “Reaching this goal has been a real team effort in every sense—from our front desk staff to our medical assistants, to the IT team at Allied Physicians of Michiana–everyone participated in reaching this milestone.”

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Meaningful Use is achieved by using certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology to (1) improve quality, safety, efficiency, and reduce health disparities; (2) engage patients and families in their health care; (3) Improve population and public health; and (4) maintain privacy and security.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009 specifies the following three components of Meaningful Use: (1) Use of EHR in a meaningful manner (e.g. e-prescribing), (2) Use of EHR for electronic exchange of health information to improve quality of healthcare and (3) use of EHR technology to submit clinical quality measures.

“Achieving Meaningful Use has been a two-year process that included switching EHR software mid-stream, and today we’ve marked a significant event by completing our attestation”, states Northern Indiana Hand & Wrist Center’s Practice Manager, Jill Cozart. “We certainly want to thank our employees, vendors and support staff—not to mention our patients—all of whom were remarkably supportive as we worked to achieve this goal.”
